FML Single Aisle Fuselage Development – an Update

The development of automated manufacturing for Single Aisle fuselage applications had been outlined during the AeroMat Conferences 2014 and 2016 by speakers from various cooperating companies. Specific for a SA fuselage application is the target of high manufacturing rates and the thin-walled structural design, below the 3/2 lay-up which is the minimum applied on the A380. The presentation will provide an overview about the progress of selected Manufacturing, Plant Engineering and M&P/Stress/Design developments of the international working group. The latter topic will include design, strength and structural robustness justifications down for 0.9mm thin 2/1 laminates. Multi-functional options provided by the Fiber Metal Laminate concept will be discussed in particular.
