Hi, future master students! This short story will be about my process of choosing a master programme and my experience with Complex Systems Engineering and Management (CoSEM). I hope it is helpful for your own choice of a master programme and that it might spark some interest in CoSEM.

My name is Henrik Jütte and I am 21 years old. I grew up in Delft and have been living here for 21 years. In my free time I like to play field hockey and go to the gym. I go the TU Delft university gym called X, it has a very nice atmosphere and I would recommend everyone to check out the different classes X has to offer. After finishing high school I chose to do the System Engineering and Policy Analysis (Technische Bestuurskunde) bachelor in Delft. While following this bachelor programme I found the law courses to be especially interesting, which led to me starting a pre-master in Law in the third year of my bachelor.

While starting the pre-master and finishing my bachelor I was still in doubt about my master programme. I attended the different events hosted by TU Delft and narrowed down my options to CoSEM and Engineering and Policy Analysis (EPA). These two masters are closely related and have a similar set of courses. I came to the conclusion that these two masters were where my interest lies, because they both followed up nicely after my bachelor. I really enjoyed the mix of technical courses and social courses, which can be found in both of the masters. In the end I chose CoSEM because it focuses more on governance and is located in Delft. EPA is located in The Hague, which is also a very nice city, but I prefer the Delft campus.

After following some CoSEM courses I have to state that I am very content with my choice. CoSEM continues the multidisciplinary nature of my bachelor's degree. In the first quarter of CoSEM you have to choose a domain to further specialize, so I chose the Energy domain (there are two more domains, Transport & Logistics and Information & Communication). This means that a third of my courses are within my domain. For me this is also what makes CoSEM such a complete degree. You have a wide array of multidisciplinary courses, such as economics, law, energy market design, statistics and multi actor decision making.

After finishing CoSEM I hope to combine my passion for technology and law to work within the socio-technical field. CoSEM plays an important role in this, because it not only provides hard technical knowledge, but also the necessary skills to implement technical solutions in a world that is not purely technical. If this sounds like something that interests you, CoSEM could be the programme for you!
