Jolien de Jager

Jolien graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment in 2014, MSc. Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences. In the following years she worked on various projects as an architect on different scales and in diverse contexts.

Jolien: “The projects that interested me most were projects in which a special communication with the client arose, resulting in valuable, and sometimes unexpected, insights. These insights and perspectives enriched the integrated approach, resulting in a coherent and meaningful design."

In addition to her work as an architect, she also took courses in which she immersed herself in making the existing living environment more sustainable. "In my opinion, there is no doubt about the necessary energy transition, but for many homeowners or residents the need to make their homes more sustainable is simply not visible enough."

Jolien has the ambition to gain expertise in transition management and in understanding and directing human behaviour. In this way she wants to contribute to making existing housing construction more sustainable. "I hope to increase the participation of residents and homeowners and bridge the gap between their current position in the construction world and the opportunities this position offers for the energy transition."

She will use the Marina van Damme grant by following two courses. The first course  is a postgraduate course of the Behavior Change Academy, in collaboration with Radboud University Nijmegen. This course focuses on understanding and guiding human behavior and their motives, linking back to one's own work practice. The second course is a deepening of transition management, which focuses on making social systems, sectors and areas more sustainable.

“Thanks to the Marina van Damme grant, I will be able to make a big step in my career and grow on a personal level as well. I hope to use the knowledge I have gained to broaden my frameworks and thus contribute my bit to the urgent energy transition.”
