Harmonisation Master's programme Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences

The Master's Programme in Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences (AUBS) will be harmonised in the academic year 2024-2025 and 2025-2026. The aim of this renewal is to make the various master tracks more similar in composition and structure, resulting in more elective space and a graduation project that takes three quarters for all students.

  • Do you start your first year of this master track Landscape Architecture in academic year 2024-2025?
Please check the updated programme here.

  • Are you currently studying in your first or second year of this master track?
In principle, this harmonisation does not affect you. You finish your master track following the current track programme which you can find below on this page.

In which situations does the harmonisation affect you?

You do not take all courses of the second semester (MSc2) this academic year
If so, you will complete the second semester next academic year 2024-2025 in the new structure, with new or replacement electives or elective design studios. Please check the study guide for more information.

You plan to interrupt your studies for (more than) a year.
If so, it is best to do this after completing the entire first year. You will then continue your studies in September 2025 in the new structure of the second year, with an inter- or transdisciplinary Q5 elective (15 EC) and graduation in three quarters. More information on the Q5 electives and the graduation project will be available in april 2025.

Track programme Landschape Architecture

The master track Landscape Architecture provides a two-year programme. The programme’s first year focuses on the development of core knowledge on landscape architecture theory, techniques and repertoire and the active practicing of design skills on various levels of complexity and scale. The second year is dedicated to the completion of the graduation project.

The programme is visualised in the scheme below, courses highlighted in yellow indicate that a choice needs to be made.

First year

The first three quarters (Q1, Q2 and Q3) of the programme are compulsory and introduce you to the fundamental domains and approaches in Landscape Architecture.

In the fourth quarter of the first year, students are free to choose a quarter programme offered by any AUBS or Geomatics master track within the faculty. The Landscape Architecture staff offers two optional courses to all MSc AUBS students: one concerning heritage landscapes (5 EC) and the other (15 EC) focuses on design and engineering of a landscape intervention to be built on site.

See the course guide for more information on the electives.

Second year

The second year is dedicated to the preparation, elaboration and finalisation of an individual graduation project. The core of the graduation year (MSc3/4) is the Flowscapes Graduation Studio (AR3LA031; 20 EC + AR4LA010; 30 EC) supported by two related courses: Research Methodology in Landscape Architecture (AR3LA020; 5 EC), and Analysis and Visualisation (AR3LA011; 5 EC).

The Flowscapes Graduation Studio relates to the projects and activities within our research portfolio Landscape Systems and Compositions. A variety of so-called ‘graduation labs’ enable students - working in small groups - to contribute to a specific research theme or topic. In the first semester of the second year (MSc 3), students develop a study plan and a research proposal including a methodology for the graduation thesis. In the second semester (MSc 4), the project becomes a fulltime effort. Students receive periodical feedback from the first (the lab coordinator) and second mentor (from an adjacent section or department).

More detailed information about the graduation studio Flowscapes graduation can be found on the TU Delft website. Practical information about graduation in general can be found here and in the Graduation Manual.
