The third perspective reflects the possibilities that the datafication of natural media opens up for design. Global sensor networks provide data-driven visualizations of our natural environment and establish a new precision in dealing with ecological questions in the design process. The epistemic quality of this new knowledge production is to combine methods of digitalization with concepts of ecology. In short: simulation models of natural media and material cycles generate a conceptual framework for a new environmental design knowledge for architecture and the built environment.
