Research & Publications

Seeking to develop more inclusive, democratic modes of spatial development, the chair provides an interdisciplinary perspective on the analysis and design of the built environment. Members of the chair are participating in different research groups such as "Architecture Culture and Modernity" and "Situated Architecture", while the chair as a whole has defined architectural pedagogy as one of its key topics of investigation. Members of the chair sit at the editorial boards of the journals Writingplace, OASE and Footprint.

Among the current research projects is the European COST-network Writing Urban Places. New Narratives of the European City, where Klaske Havikis leading a large European network of researchers from 30 participating countries , working on literary and architectural imagination in relation to urban questions in Europe. The funding covers research and teaching exchanges across Europe, publications, and conferences.

Analytical Models: HOFJES

Hofjes are an important constituent architectural figure of the Dutch city since 1400 and up until today. Their sustainability is proven by the large number of historical hofjes that has survived, that they are still built and inhabited successfully.

Research on narratives of the European city receives COST grant

The proposal ‘Writing Urban Places. New narratives of the European city’ has been accepted as COST Action proposal.

Writingplace

A platform aimed at exploring alternative ways of looking at architecture, urban places and landscapes through literary writing.

Constructing the Commons

Initiated by the chair of Methods and Analysis, this project investigates the notion of the commons from a tangible perspective, from an architectural point of view.

Tools of the Architect Exhibition

We claim that operative interrelations between methods and analyses establish the condition to learn about architecture.

Marie Curie ITN Tack

The Chair participates in the PhD training network ‘TACK / Communities of Tacit Knowledge: Architecture and its Ways of Knowing’.

EU COST Writing Urban Places

The chair is leading the EU COST Action Writing Urban Places, New Narratives for the European City, which started in Spring 2019.
