MSc. Hao C.

PhD candidate
Industrial Design

Chen Hao comes from Beijing, China. She is a design researcher who cares for user experience. After completing her Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Design in Shanghai, she received a Master of Science degree (Cum Laude) in Design for Interaction at TU Delft in 2013. She strives to support users in realizing their needs through design research and co-creation, designing products that interact with people to enhance their experiences and lifestyle.

Traveling around the world feeds Chen’s love of cultural diversity and fuels her creativity. This, coupled with Chen’s Chinese background, enables her to understand that the growth of wealth in modern China is leading to Chinese people becoming more discriminating about products. As a consequence, there is an increasing need for insightful product designers who can anticipate the future needs of Chinese customers and their personal, situational, social and cultural contexts. Therefore, Chen’s PhD research aims to develop a generative user research technique to encourage users, especially Chinese ones, to express views and anecdotes about the explored context, and eventually to help designers gain specific Chinese user experiences surrounding the products, including their thoughts, opinions and dreams.
