Industrial DesignDesign Conceptualization and Communication

I’m a designer and a researcher from Beijing, China. After finishing my bachelor of Industrial Design at Donghua University in Shanghai, I moved to the Netherlands to study master of Design for Interaction at Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (IDE), Delft University of Technology. I received my master’s degree with honors (Cum Laude) in 2013. During my study, I worked half year at Philips Design in Amstel as a people research intern, where I developed a keen interest in user research.

Following my interests in research, I self-initiated my PhD thesis and has being work at ID-Studiolab in IDE since 2014. I have developed Cultura, a contextual research method that helps designers gain intercultural empathy with end users. For my PhD research, I partner closely with companies in Europe and China, which allows me to combine theory with pragmatism and utilize my method in design practice. I’m also passionate about doing design education and have being co-organized several design workshops for design students and practitioners in several international design schools.

Since 2018, I have spent part of my time working as a lecturer at IDE, coaching several Master's courses, and part of my time on my own design research consultancy company, HAO design lab.
