Dr. Ir. Joustra, J.J.
Jelle Joustra is a Postdoc at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering.
Academic Background
Jelle Joustra did his bachelor Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft, in which one of the design projects resulted in building a test setup to measure the thermal conductivity of plastics. After the bachelor, he participated in the Nuon Solar Team, to design, build and race the solar car Nuna5 in the World Solar Challenge in Australia and the Suzuka Dream Cup in Japan.
In his master Integrated Product Design at TU Delft, he was awarded the Philips Design Award for the domestic appliances project: Coffee!
For his graduation project he developed a new set of sailing gear for Olympic dinghy sailors, optimised for thermal comfort during a race. The project was awarded the International Sports Engineering Association Student Prize.
After his graduation from TU Delft, Jelle worked as Product Developer at Hukseflux Thermal Sensors. His tasks included the design, testing and preparation of new products for series production. He designed several types of sensors for measurement of heat flux, thermal conductivity and solar radiation.
He currently works on his PhD at Circular Product Design, in the department of Design Engineering. The PhD is embedded in the European project “EcoBulk”, which aims to improve on the use of composite materials in the circular economy, by researching new materials and design strategies.
