M.M. Weber

Profiel

Maaike is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, working on the development of a Safe and Circular by Design method. She researches how designers can integrate circular design strategies that regard the long-term safety of the (hazardous substances in) materials in their designs.

Academische achtergrond

Maaike's research focuses on developing an innovative 'Safe and Circular Products by Design' methodology that addresses 'substances of concern' and their toxicological mechanisms while aligning with circular product design principles. One of her goals is to integrate findings from comprehensive impact assessments and ethical frameworks to guide designers in making informed decisions. Her work aims to advance sustainable product design practices, promote the circular economy, and empower designers to create safer, more environmentally responsible products.

Prior to her appointment as PhD candidate, she served as a research assistant at Amsterdam UMC, contributing to various projects in the Department of Public Health. The research primarily focused on optimizing, visualizing and standardizing the exchange of health information between patients and healthcare professionals, along with tailoring information presentation for specific audiences, including individuals with low health literacy. Maaike completed her double master’s degree in Integrated Product Design and in Biomedical Engineering at the TU Delft. She did her bachelor’s in Industrial Design, with a minor in Medicine.
