Academic Background

Ninaber van Eyben’s one-of-a-kind or limited-edition design commissions, for special occasions, include products ranging from an artificial kidney to a typewriter. He also designed the new coinage of the Netherlands (1980, produced from 1982, prior to the euro) and 1998 obverse of the Dutch euro coinage (selected in a close competition). 1985 he co-founded the n|p|k design consultancy (Ninaber/Peters/Krouwel Industrial Design). Other work has included a 1973 bracelet watch, a renowned 1976 black rubber-cord nechlace watch, 1977 fluorescent lighting system, 1994 lipped ruler (with the n|p|k group) by Randstad Uitzendbureau. In 1997, he established his own eponymous design studio, operating with a small staff.
